ABOUT THE BRAND

The Surrey is a sustainable equestrian apparel brand founded in the hills of Malibu, California by creator and designer Emma Werner. Emma’s vision for The Surrey is rooted in reinvigorating classic heritage equestrian silhouettes in elegant luxury fabrics while maintaining performance enhancing qualities for the sport.

The inspiration behind The Surrey draws on Emma’s upbringing on horseback in Maryland and The Virginias. Thinking back to the classic image of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis on horseback in a simple black tee and Audrey Hepburn riding in a field with a head scarf and classic white polo, Emma’s goal is to capture that style with modern functionality. This, combined with Emma’s fascination for the history of the horses in the Americas, the working cattle horses and functional style of their riders is what The Surrey is born from. The Surrey strives to fulfill the needs of a high performance sport rider while remaining elegant, using luxury fabrics and sustainable practices, yet just as suitable for a casual trail ride.

My grandmother and great grandmother at their farm, Bending River Farm, in Virginia, with neck scarves keeping their hair back while making a fire and cooking down by the river is the essence of The Surrey translated into the modern practical horseman.

My Grandparents Nancy and Lloyd’s cabin in West Virginia is where I first fell in love with horses.  We would drive the Wagoneer through the river to get to the house, being greeted by the herd.

My grandmother Lenore was born and raised in Manhattan, is a true high fashion inspiration.  She had a closet full of fabulous printed coats, bags, shoes and everything else you would dream of to dress up in.
